MSC Poesia Dining Options : Restaurants, Menus and What’s Included

If you’re planning a cruise on MSC Poesia, one of the biggest questions is what the MSC Poesia dining options are actually like, what food is included and how dining works once you’re onboard.

MSC Poesia is a smaller ship than many of the newer MSC cruise ships, so there aren’t dozens of restaurants to choose from. However, there are still enough options to cover breakfast, lunch and dinner, including the main dining rooms, buffet, room service and speciality dining.

The food itself was generally good, with plenty of choice across the cruise. The biggest difference I noticed compared with Princess and Royal Caribbean was the consistency of the service rather than the quality of the food.

This MSC Poesia dining guide covers the main restaurants onboard, what’s included in your cruise fare, what costs extra, fixed dining times, breakfast, lunch, dinner and speciality dining. I’ll also explain which options worked best for me and what you need to know before your cruise.

It also explains how fixed dining works and what you can do if your allocated dining time doesn’t suit you.

What Restaurants Are on MSC Poesia?

The main included dining venues on MSC Poesia are the main dining rooms and the Villa Pompeiana buffet. La Fontaine is the main restaurant used for breakfast and lunch on selected days. Dinner is served across the ship’s main dining rooms, with your allocated restaurant, table and dining time printed on your cruise card.

The Villa Pompeiana buffet is open across much of the day and offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and a limited selection of late-night snacks.

MSC Poesia also offers room service, including a continental breakfast that can be delivered to your cabin. Whether there is a delivery charge depends on the experience you have booked.

For speciality dining, MSC Poesia has Kaito Sushi and Butcher’s Cut. Kaito Sushi was available during my sailing, while Butcher’s Cut was added as part of the ship’s February 2026 refit.

Is Food Included on MSC Poesia?

A Gala Night main course served in the main dining room on MSC Poesia

Most food on MSC Poesia is included in your cruise fare. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main dining rooms are included, as is the food served in the buffet. You can also return to the buffet throughout the day for snacks, pizza, desserts, tea and coffee.

Room service breakfast may also be included, depending on your MSC experience. Fantastica passengers can order the continental breakfast without a delivery fee, while Bella passengers usually pay a room service delivery charge.

Speciality dining at Kaito Sushi and Butcher’s Cut costs extra. Drinks may also cost extra unless they’re included in your drinks package or are one of the complimentary drinks available from the buffet stations.

It’s perfectly possible to cruise on MSC Poesia without paying extra for food. Speciality dining is more about adding variety and having a quieter meal than filling a gap in the included dining.

How Does Dining Work on MSC Poesia?

Dining on MSC Poesia is more structured than it is on many newer cruise ships. Unless you have an MSC experience that includes flexible dining, you’ll be allocated a fixed dinner sitting. Your cruise card will show your restaurant, dining time and table number.

On my cruise, the early dinner sitting was at 5.30pm and the late sitting was at 8pm. You’re expected to arrive at your allocated restaurant at that time rather than turning up whenever you choose.

You’ll normally keep the same table throughout the cruise. This means you may also be seated with the same passengers each evening.

If you’re travelling as a couple, you may be allocated a shared table. Tables for two can be limited, so it’s better to make a request before sailing or speak to the dining team as early as possible on embarkation day. Larger groups of four or six usually have a better chance of being allocated a table for their own party.

If your dining time doesn’t suit you, it may be possible to change it. On my sailing, MSC had a dining changes station near the Zebra Bar. I was originally allocated late dining but was able to change to the early sitting without too much difficulty. It’s best to deal with any dining changes on the first day because the most popular times and table sizes can fill quickly.

MSC Poesia Breakfast Options

One of the breakfast buffet stations on MSC Poesia

Breakfast on MSC Poesia is available in the Villa Pompeiana buffet, La Fontaine main dining room and through continental room service, so there are options for both quick port mornings and slower sea days.

The buffet is the most flexible option and offers the widest choice. You’ll normally find cooked breakfast items alongside pastries, bread, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, pancakes and waffles. It works well if you have an early excursion or want to eat quickly, although it can become busy at the most popular times on sea days. There is plenty of seating, and it is often easier to find a table if you walk further through the buffet rather than stopping near the first food stations.

La Fontaine offers a traditional sit-down breakfast with table service. This is the calmer option if you aren’t in a rush and would rather order from a menu than walk around the buffet. The food was good and there was plenty of choice, although the service could be inconsistent. Some mornings drinks, pastries and bread arrived without needing to ask, while on others the basics took longer.

Room service is another option if you want breakfast in your cabin or have an early start. It is a continental breakfast rather than a full cooked meal, with items such as pastries, bread, cereal, yoghurt, fruit and drinks. Whether you pay a delivery fee depends on the MSC experience you booked, with breakfast delivery included for Fantastica passengers but charged for Bella passengers.

MSC may also offer brunch in the main dining room on one of the sea days. On my cruise, brunch replaced the usual lunch service on one sea day, while normal lunch was available on the other.

The buffet is best for flexibility, La Fontaine is better for a slower breakfast, and room service works well when convenience matters most.

MSC Poesia Lunch Options

Lunch on MSC Poesia is mainly available in the Villa Pompeiana buffet and La Fontaine main dining room, with the best option depending on whether you want something quick or a more relaxed sit-down meal.

The buffet is the most flexible choice and is where most passengers eat during the day. You’ll usually find pizza, pasta, rice dishes, vegetables, salads, desserts and a selection of international food. There was also a vegan section and an Asian corner during my cruise, so there was enough variety to put together a different lunch across the week.

The pizza was one of the strongest options in the buffet. MSC is known for its pizza, and on MSC Poesia it was fresh, simple and reliable. The salad bar was also useful if you wanted something lighter rather than another full plate of hot buffet food.

La Fontaine offers a quieter sit-down lunch with table service when it is open. This is a good option on sea days if you want a break from the buffet and prefer to order from a menu. It is also worth checking on embarkation day, as most passengers automatically head to the buffet and the main dining room can feel much calmer.

Lunch opening times in La Fontaine vary depending on the itinerary. On one sea day during my cruise, brunch replaced the normal lunch service, while a standard lunch menu was available on the other sea day. Lunch may also be available on port days, although the opening period can be short and you need to be back onboard in time.

The buffet is best for flexibility and quick meals, while La Fontaine is better when you want a slower lunch in a quieter setting. The main thing is to check the daily planner so you know whether lunch or brunch is being served in the dining room that day.

MSC Poesia Dinner Options

Dinner on MSC Poesia is mainly served in the main dining rooms, with most passengers allocated a fixed restaurant, table and dining time for the duration of the cruise.

The main dining room menu changes each evening and usually includes a choice of starters, main courses and desserts. There was always something I wanted to order, and the food was generally good. The biggest difference compared with Princess and Royal Caribbean was the service, which didn’t always feel as polished or consistent.

Your dining details are printed on your cruise card. On my sailing, the early sitting was at 5.30pm and the late sitting was at 8pm. This means you can’t normally arrive whenever you choose unless you have a more flexible dining arrangement included with your MSC experience.

If your allocated time doesn’t suit you, it may be possible to request a change early in the cruise. It is worth checking this as soon as you board, especially if you have been given late dining and prefer to eat earlier.

The Villa Pompeiana buffet is also open in the evening and offers a more casual alternative. This works well if you return late from a port, don’t want a full sit-down meal or prefer to eat at a different time. The choice can feel similar to lunch, so I saw it more as a convenient option than the main dining highlight.

MSC also holds a gala dinner during the cruise. The food was enjoyable, but I didn’t find it noticeably more special than the other main dining room evenings, so I would treat it as a normal dinner with a slightly different menu rather than a major event.

The main dining room is the best option for a full included evening meal, while the buffet is useful when flexibility matters more.

MSC Poesia Main Dining Rooms

Il Palladio main dining room on MSC Poesia
Il Palladio restaurant, one of the main dining rooms on MSC Poesia

MSC Poesia has two main dining rooms, Il Palladio and Le Fontane, with passengers allocated a restaurant, dining time and table for dinner.

The dining room details are printed on your cruise card, and you normally return to the same restaurant and table each evening. On my sailing, the early sitting was at 5.30pm and the late sitting was at 8pm, so it is more structured than the flexible dining systems used on some newer cruise ships.

The fixed dining system is straightforward once you understand it, but it offers less flexibility if your allocated time doesn’t fit around your plans. If you want to change your sitting, it is best to speak to the dining team as early as possible on embarkation day. On my cruise, there was a station near the Zebra Bar where passengers could request dining changes, and I was able to move from late to early dining.

Table sharing is common, particularly for couples, as tables for two can be limited. If you are already travelling as a group of four or six, it is usually easier to request a table for your own party. Any table requests are best made before the cruise or as soon as you board.

The main dining rooms serve a changing menu each evening, while Le Fontane is also used for breakfast, lunch and brunch at selected times. The food was generally good, although the service could be inconsistent depending on the meal.

The fixed dining rooms work best if you are happy with a regular routine each evening. If your dining time or table allocation doesn’t suit you, dealing with it early gives you the best chance of changing it.

MSC Poesia Speciality Dining

A sushi dish served at Kaito Sushi, one of the speciality dining options on MSC Poesia

MSC Poesia has two speciality dining restaurants: Kaito Sushi and Butcher’s Cut. Both cost extra and offer a quieter alternative to the main dining rooms and buffet.

Kaito Sushi was the standout meal of my cruise. The food was excellent, the restaurant was quiet and the overall experience felt like a noticeable step up from the included dining. It was also reasonably priced compared with speciality dining on some other cruise lines.

I paid €34 for my meal at Kaito Sushi. MSC sometimes offers lower prices when speciality dining is booked before the cruise, so it’s worth checking the options in your booking before you sail rather than waiting until you’re onboard.

Butcher’s Cut was added during the February 2026 refit and offers a steakhouse-style menu with steaks, grilled meats and other classic dishes. It has taken over part of the former buffet area and gives MSC Poesia a second paid dining option alongside Kaito Sushi.

I sailed before Butcher’s Cut was added, so I can’t give a personal review of the food or service. Whether it’s worth booking will depend on the current price and how much you want a steakhouse meal during your cruise.

Speciality dining isn’t essential on MSC Poesia because the included options are enough for the full cruise. However, Kaito Sushi was worth paying extra for because the difference in both the food and atmosphere was clear.

My MSC Poesia speciality dining guide includes the menus, prices and a closer look at whether Kaito Sushi and Butcher’s Cut are worth paying for.

What Is the Food Like on MSC Poesia?

A plate of food from the lunch buffet on MSC Poesia

Overall, I found the food on MSC Poesia good, and better than some of the mixed reviews of MSC dining might suggest. There was enough variety across the main dining rooms and buffet to avoid eating the same thing every day. The main dining room menus changed each evening, and there was always something I wanted to order. In the buffet, the pizza was one of the most reliable options and was usually fresher than some of the other hot dishes.

Kaito Sushi was the strongest meal I had onboard and felt like a clear step up from the included dining. The food, quieter atmosphere and overall experience made it worth paying extra for.

The main weakness was the inconsistency of the service rather than the food itself. Some meals ran smoothly, with drinks, bread and other items brought over without needing to ask. At other times, the service felt less organised and the basics took longer.

The overall standard didn’t quite match Princess or Royal Caribbean, particularly in the main dining room service, but it was still perfectly enjoyable. I wouldn’t describe the dining as a highlight of the ship, but I also wouldn’t see it as a reason not to book MSC Poesia.

Because MSC Poesia is a smaller and older ship, there are fewer dining options than you’ll find on newer MSC ships. Even so, there is enough included choice for the full cruise, and you don’t need to pay extra unless you want more variety or a different dining experience.

Dietary Requirements on MSC Poesia

MSC can cater for a range of dietary requirements, but it’s important to notify the cruise line before travelling. You should also speak to the dining team once you’re onboard so they can explain which dishes are suitable and how your meals will be handled.

The buffet had a vegan section during my sailing, along with salads, fruit and a selection of vegetable dishes. However, anyone with allergies or more complex dietary needs should avoid relying only on buffet labels.

The main dining room is usually the easiest place to manage dietary requirements because you can speak directly to the restaurant team and plan future meals.

What Are the Best MSC Poesia Dining Options?

For breakfast, the buffet is best for convenience, while La Fontaine works better when you want a calmer morning.

For lunch, La Fontaine is worth using whenever it’s open, especially on embarkation day. In the buffet, the pizza and salad bar were the most reliable options.

For dinner, the main dining room provides the most complete included meal. Just make sure you’re happy with your allocated sitting and request a change early if necessary.

For speciality dining, Kaito Sushi was my clear favourite and the meal I’d be most likely to book again.
