MSC Poesia Dinner Options and Menus: How Dining Works Onboard

Dinner is the part of the day where MSC Poesia feels most traditional. Instead of choosing any restaurant at any time, most passengers are allocated a main dining room, a table and a fixed sitting for the duration of the cruise. The MSC Poesia dinner options are therefore less flexible than they are on some newer ships, but the system is straightforward once you understand it. Most people eat in the main dining room, while the Villa Pompeiana buffet provides a more casual alternative if you don’t want a full sit-down meal.

The main things to check are your allocated dining time, whether you’re happy with your table arrangement and how dinner fits around the evening entertainment. If something doesn’t suit you, it’s better to deal with it on embarkation day rather than waiting until later in the cruise.

This guide explains how dinner works on MSC Poesia, including fixed sittings, main dining room menus, shared tables, the gala dinner, the evening buffet and what to do if your allocated time doesn’t work for you. You can also download the available MSC Poesia dinner menus in the free PDF below.

Where Can You Eat Dinner on MSC Poesia?

Most passengers eat dinner in one of the ship’s main dining rooms at their allocated time. MSC Poesia has two main dining rooms, Il Palladio and Le Fontane, with your assigned restaurant, table and sitting printed on your cruise card.

The Villa Pompeiana buffet is also open in the evening and works as a more casual alternative if you don’t want to attend your assigned sitting.

Kaito Sushi and Butcher’s Cut provide extra-charge speciality dining, but these are better treated as an occasional change rather than part of the normal evening routine.

The main decision is whether you want a full sit-down meal at a fixed time or something more flexible in the buffet.

MSC Poesia Main Dining Rooms

The main dining rooms are the centre of the MSC Poesia dinner experience. There are two main restaurants, Il Palladio and Le Fontane, and your cruise card shows which one you have been allocated, along with your table number and dining time. An easy way to remember which is which is by the chairs: Il Palladio has red chairs, while Le Fontane has blue chairs. Once you’ve been allocated a restaurant and table, that’s where you’ll eat each evening.

The menus change throughout the cruise and usually include a choice of starters, main courses and desserts. There was always something I wanted to order, and the overall choice was good.

The food itself was generally enjoyable. The main difference compared with Princess and Royal Caribbean was the service, which didn’t always feel as polished or consistent. Some meals ran smoothly, while others felt less organised. This didn’t spoil the dining experience, but it was noticeable across the cruise.

The fixed dining room system works well if you like having a regular evening routine. The downside is that you have less control over when you eat.

How Fixed Dining Works on MSC Poesia

The early and late dinner sitting times for the main dining rooms on MSC Poesia

Most MSC Poesia passengers are allocated either an early or late dinner sitting. On my sailing, the early sitting was at 5.30pm and the late sitting was at 8pm. These times can vary, so check the details printed on your cruise card. You are expected to arrive at your assigned restaurant at the allocated time rather than turning up whenever you choose.

This means dinner needs to be planned around your evening. An early sitting can feel rushed after a full day ashore, while a late sitting may clash with shows or feel too late if you normally eat earlier. Passengers on selected MSC experiences may have access to more flexible dining, but most guests use the fixed system.

The system is easy once you know your allocation. The important part is checking it as soon as you board rather than assuming it will match your preference.

Can You Change Your Dinner Time on MSC Poesia?

The maître d’ on embarkation day, where passengers can ask about their allocated dinner sitting or request a change

It may be possible to change your allocated dinner sitting, but this depends on availability. On my cruise, MSC had a station set up near the Zebra Bar where passengers could request dining changes. I had originally been given late dining and was able to move to the early sitting without too much difficulty.

It’s best to make any request as early as possible on embarkation day. The most popular times are likely to fill first, and it becomes harder to move people once the dining arrangements are established.

There is no guarantee that MSC will be able to accommodate every request, but it is worth asking if the time genuinely doesn’t suit you. The same applies to table requests. Speak to the dining team early rather than waiting until the first dinner.

Table Sharing on MSC Poesia

Table sharing is common in the MSC Poesia main dining rooms, particularly for couples. If you’re travelling as a pair, you may be seated with other passengers rather than being given a table for two. Smaller tables are more limited, so they can’t always be guaranteed. If you’re travelling as a group of four or six, it is usually easier to request a table for your own party.

Any preference should ideally be added before the cruise. You can also speak to the dining team on embarkation day if your allocation isn’t what you expected.

Some people enjoy the social side of sharing a table, while others prefer to eat alone. The main thing is to be aware that a private table isn’t automatic. Because you normally keep the same table throughout the cruise, it’s better to raise any issue early rather than hoping it will change on its own.

What Is the Main Dining Room Food Like?

The main dining room food on MSC Poesia was generally good. The menus changed each evening and there was enough choice to avoid ordering the same type of meal every night.

I wouldn’t say the overall dining experience matched Princess or Royal Caribbean, but the difference was more about service and consistency than a lack of choice.

Some dishes were stronger than others, which is normal on a cruise, but there was always something suitable on the menu. The main dining room is still the best included option if you want a full evening meal with several courses and table service. It also gives dinner more of a traditional cruise feel than the buffet.

Gala Dinner on MSC Poesia

MSC holds a gala dinner during the cruise, with a separate menu served in the main dining rooms. The food was enjoyable, but I didn’t find it significantly more elevated than the other evening meals. I would treat it as a normal main dining room dinner with a slightly different menu rather than expecting a completely different experience.

The evening may still feel more formal because of what people choose to wear and the wider atmosphere around the ship.It can also be a busier night in the restaurants, so arriving at your allocated time matters. The gala menu is included in the downloadable dinner menus below.

Villa Pompeiana Buffet in the Evening

The Villa Pompeiana buffet is open for dinner and offers a more casual alternative to the main dining rooms. This works well if you return late from port, don’t want a three-course meal or prefer to eat outside your allocated dining time.

The evening selection is similar in style to lunch, with pizza, pasta, salads, hot dishes, vegetables and desserts. The main limitation is that it can feel repetitive if you have already eaten in the buffet earlier in the day. I saw the buffet as a useful convenience option rather than the highlight of dinner onboard. It gives you flexibility, but the main dining room provides the more complete evening meal.

What Happens If You Miss Your Assigned Dinner Sitting?

If you miss your allocated main dining room sitting, the buffet is the alternative you have. Because fixed dining works around set times and tables, you can’t normally arrive much later and expect to be seated as usual. This is worth remembering after a long port day or if an excursion returns close to your dinner time.

You may be able to speak to the dining team, but there is no guarantee that another sitting will have space. The safest approach is to use the buffet that evening rather than relying on the main dining room accommodating a late arrival. If your assigned time repeatedly clashes with your plans, request a permanent change early in the cruise.

Late-Night Food on MSC Poesia

MSC Poesia does offer late-night snacks in the buffet. The selection is limited rather than a full continuation of the evening service. You shouldn’t expect all the buffet stations to remain open late into the night.

It can still be useful if you want something small after a show or evening in the bars. For a full meal, it’s better to use your dining room sitting or the main evening buffet service. The late-night offering is best treated as a snack rather than another dinner option.

What Time Is Dinner on MSC Poesia?

Dinner times depend on your allocated sitting. On my sailing, early dining was at 5.30pm and late dining was at 8pm. Your exact restaurant, table and dining time are printed on your cruise card.

The buffet operates separately and provides a wider evening window, although the exact opening times can vary.

Speciality restaurant times also depend on availability and need to be checked when booking. Always check the MSC for Me app or daily programme because timings may differ between itineraries.

Is Dinner Included on MSC Poesia?

Dinner in the main dining rooms and Villa Pompeiana buffet is included in your cruise fare. This means you can have a full sit-down meal or use the buffet without paying extra.

Kaito Sushi and Butcher’s Cut cost extra. Drinks may also cost extra unless they are included in your package or are among the complimentary buffet options.

In practical terms, you don’t need to pay extra for dinner unless you want a speciality restaurant or a change from the included choices. The main dining room provides enough variety for the full cruise.

What Is the Best Dinner Option on MSC Poesia?

The main dining room is the best option for a complete included dinner. It offers a changing menu, several courses and table service, and it feels more like a proper evening meal than the buffet.

The buffet is better when flexibility matters more, particularly after a late return from port or when you don’t want to follow the fixed dining schedule.

The most important thing is checking whether your assigned time suits you. If it doesn’t, try to change it on embarkation day. For a paid upgrade, Kaito Sushi was the strongest meal I had onboard, but speciality dining isn’t necessary every evening.
