The MSC Poesia main dining room system can feel confusing before your cruise because most passengers don’t simply arrive whenever they want to eat. You’re allocated a restaurant, a table and a fixed dinner sitting, and those arrangements normally stay the same throughout the cruise.
MSC Poesia has two main dining rooms, Il Palladio and Le Fontane. Both are included in your cruise fare and are used for the ship’s traditional sit-down dining. Le Fontane, which may also be referred to as La Fontaine, is also used for breakfast, lunch and brunch at selected times.
This guide explains how the MSC Poesia main dining room works, including early and late dining, what appears on your cruise card, table sharing, how to request a change and what to expect from the menus and service.
For a complete overview of food across the ship, you can also read my MSC Poesia dining guide, which covers the buffet, breakfast, lunch, dinner and speciality dining.

What Are the Main Dining Rooms on MSC Poesia?

MSC Poesia has two main dining rooms: Il Palladio and Le Fontane. Although the restaurants have different names, they form part of the same included dining system. Your assigned restaurant is printed on your cruise card alongside your dining time and table number.
Both restaurants are used for dinner, while Le Fontane on Deck 5 is also used for breakfast, lunch and brunch at selected times.
The evening menus follow the same general dining programme, so you don’t need to worry that one restaurant offers better food than the other.
The main difference is simply where you have been assigned to eat.The main difference is simply where you have been assigned to eat. An easy way to remember which restaurant you’re in is by the chairs: Il Palladio has red chairs, while Le Fontane has blue chairs. It’s worth remembering, as I saw plenty of passengers head to the wrong restaurant during the cruise.
Is the MSC Poesia Main Dining Room Included?

Yes, the MSC Poesia main dining room is included in your cruise fare. You don’t pay extra to eat there for dinner, and breakfast, lunch or brunch in Le Fontane are also included when those services are available.
This is the more traditional sit-down alternative to the Villa Pompeiana buffet. You’re shown to a table, order from a menu and have the food brought to you.
Drinks may cost extra unless they’re included in your drinks package or are otherwise complimentary. Speciality dining at Kaito Sushi and Butcher’s Cut isn’t included and needs to be booked separately.
How Does Fixed Dining Work on MSC Poesia?

Most passengers on MSC Poesia use fixed dining for dinner. Fixed dining means you eat in the same restaurant, at the same time and at the same table each evening. Your cruise card shows all the information you need.
On my sailing, the two dinner sittings were: Early dining at 5.30pm. Late dining at 8pm. Times may vary between itineraries, so check your own cruise card once you board.
You’re expected to arrive at the restaurant for your allocated sitting rather than turning up whenever you choose. This is different from the anytime dining systems used on some newer cruise ships.
The benefit is that you always know where and when you’re eating. The downside is that your dinner time may not fit perfectly around port days, shows or your normal routine.
What Information Is on Your MSC Cruise Card?

Your MSC cruise card shows your assigned dining arrangements, including your main dining room, dinner sitting and table number. Check these details as soon as you receive your card so you know where and when you’ll be eating each evening. It’s particularly important to check whether you have early or late dining because the two sittings create very different evening routines.
Early dining works well if you normally eat earlier or want the rest of the evening free. However, 5.30pm can feel early after a full day in port. Late dining gives you more time to get ready after returning to the ship, but 8pm may feel too late for some passengers and can affect which shows you attend. If your allocation doesn’t suit you, speak to the dining team on embarkation day.
Can You Change Your Dining Time on MSC Poesia?

You can request a different dinner sitting, although changes depend on availability. On my sailing, MSC had a dining changes station near the Zebra Bar. I had originally been allocated late dining but was able to switch to the early sitting quite easily. The best time to ask is on embarkation day.
The dining team is dealing with table plans and requests at the start of the cruise, so your chances are better before everyone has settled into their arrangements.
Popular times may fill quickly, particularly early dining. A change isn’t guaranteed, but it’s always worth asking if your allocated sitting doesn’t work with your plans. Don’t wait several days and expect the dining team to move you easily once the restaurants and tables are established.
Does MSC Poesia Have Flexible Dining?

Most passengers have fixed dining, but selected MSC experiences may provide more flexibility. If you have a flexible dining arrangement, the exact process and available times should be confirmed through your booking and once onboard. This isn’t the same as simply arriving at any time without an arrangement.
Passengers with standard fixed dining should follow the restaurant and sitting printed on their cruise card. If you’re unsure which system applies to your booking, check your documents before sailing and confirm with the dining team on embarkation day.
Do You Share a Table in the MSC Poesia Main Dining Room?

Table sharing is common in the MSC Poesia main dining rooms, particularly for couples. If you’re travelling as a pair, you may be seated with other passengers rather than automatically receiving a table for two. Tables for two are more limited, so requests can’t always be guaranteed. If you’re travelling as a group of four or six, it is normally easier to request a table for your own party.
Some passengers enjoy sharing because it makes dinner more social and you normally sit with the same people throughout the cruise. Others prefer a private table. If table size matters to you, make the request before sailing or speak to the dining team as soon as you board. Because you keep the same table each evening, it’s better to deal with any concern at the start of the cruise.
Can You Change Your Table on MSC Poesia?

You can ask to change your table, but whether this is possible depends on the space available. Speak to the dining team on embarkation day if you want a table for two, would prefer a larger shared table, want to sit with friends or family on another booking, or if your party has been separated. You should also speak to them if there’s another problem with the table you’ve been allocated.
If you’re travelling with people in different cabins, make sure your bookings are correctly linked before the cruise. The dining team will normally try to help with table changes, but they can only work with the space available. The earlier you ask, the better your chance of finding an arrangement that works.
What Happens If You Miss Your Dinner Sitting?

If you miss your allocated dinner sitting, the Villa Pompeiana buffet is the easiest alternative. Fixed dining on MSC Poesia works around set restaurant, table and sitting times. You should arrive at your allocated time, and the usual cut-off for arriving late is around 15 minutes after your sitting begins.
If you arrive later than this, you shouldn’t assume you’ll still be seated in the main dining room. This is particularly important on port days if you’re returning to the ship close to your allocated dinner time.
If your assigned sitting is likely to cause problems throughout the cruise, speak to the dining team as early as possible and ask whether they can move you permanently to another sitting. Any change will depend on availability.
For a one-off occasion when you miss your allocated dining time, the Villa Pompeiana buffet is normally the simplest alternative.
MSC Poesia Main Dining Room Dinner Menus

The main dining room dinner menu changes each evening. You’ll normally find a choice of starters, main courses and desserts, with enough variety to choose a different type of meal across the cruise. There was always something I wanted to order during my sailing.
The food was generally good, although the overall experience didn’t feel as polished as it has on Princess or Royal Caribbean. The main difference was the consistency of the service rather than the choice on the menu. Some evenings ran smoothly, while others felt less organised.
The main dining room still provided the best complete included dinner onboard and felt more like a proper evening meal than eating in the buffet.
What Is the Service Like in the Main Dining Room?

The service in the MSC Poesia main dining room could be inconsistent. At some meals, everything arrived smoothly and the service felt organised. At others, drinks, bread or other basic parts of the meal took longer and needed to be requested.
This was also noticeable at breakfast, where some mornings juice, tea, coffee and pastries were offered without asking, while on other mornings the service was less consistent. It didn’t ruin the meals, but it was the main difference I noticed when comparing MSC with Princess and Royal Caribbean. The food itself was generally enjoyable and there was enough choice. The service was simply less predictable.
Gala Dinner in the MSC Poesia Main Dining Room

There is a Gala Night during an MSC Poesia cruise, and a different dinner menu is served in the main dining rooms for the evening. Your dining arrangements don’t change for Gala Night. You still go to your allocated restaurant, at your usual sitting time, and sit at your assigned table. The main difference is the menu and the more formal atmosphere around the ship.
There is also normally a complimentary Gala Night drink available before dinner. On my cruise, this was collected from the bar nearest to your allocated restaurant as you made your way to dinner. Look out for the information onboard telling you where and when the drink is available, as the arrangements can vary.
More passengers tend to dress up for Gala Night, so the restaurants can feel busier than on a normal evening. It’s still important to arrive for your allocated sitting because the fixed dining system works in exactly the same way as it does on the other nights of the cruise. If you don’t want to take part in the Gala Dinner, you can still use the buffet instead.
The gala dinner menu is included in my downloadable MSC Poesia dining menus PDF which is linked below.
Breakfast, Lunch and Brunch in Le Fontane

Le Fontane on Deck 5 is also used for breakfast, lunch and brunch at selected times, but these meals don’t use the fixed dining system you have in the evening.
For breakfast and lunch, you simply turn up during the published opening times and wait to be seated. You can ask for your own table or choose to share with other passengers. You don’t need to use your allocated dinner table, and your evening restaurant assignment doesn’t affect where you sit.
Breakfast is served from a menu, with your food brought to the table. Lunch works in the same way when Le Fontane is open, including on embarkation day and on selected sea and port days.
MSC may also serve brunch in Le Fontane on a sea day. On my cruise, brunch replaced the normal lunch service on one of the sea days rather than being offered as an additional meal.
The exact breakfast, lunch and brunch opening times can vary from day to day, so check the MSC for Me app or the daily programme before heading to the restaurant.
MSC Poesia Main Dining Room Tips

Check your cruise card as soon as you board so you know which main dining room you’ve been allocated, your dinner sitting time and your table number. If you want to request a different sitting or table, speak to the dining team on embarkation day rather than leaving it until later in the cruise.
Don’t assume that couples will automatically be given a table for two. If you want a private table, ask as early as possible, although this will depend on availability. If you’re travelling with friends or family in another cabin, make sure your bookings are linked before the cruise so MSC knows you want to dine together.
For breakfast, lunch and brunch in Le Fontane, check the MSC for Me app or daily programme because opening times can change from day to day. These meals don’t use the fixed dinner system, so you simply arrive during the advertised hours and are shown to a table.
If Le Fontane is open for lunch on embarkation day, it can be a good alternative to heading straight to the busy buffet. In the evening, remember that the Villa Pompeiana buffet is also available if you miss your allocated main dining room sitting.
Is the MSC Poesia Main Dining Room Worth Using?

Yes, the MSC Poesia main dining room is worth using, particularly for dinner. It gives you a full included meal with table service and a changing menu, and it feels more like a traditional cruise evening than eating in the buffet. It’s also worth trying for breakfast or lunch when you want a quieter meal.
The service wasn’t always consistent, but the food was generally good and there was always something I wanted to order. The fixed dining system won’t suit everyone, particularly if you prefer complete flexibility. However, once you understand your allocation and make any necessary changes at the beginning of the cruise, the system is straightforward.

The dinner menus change throughout the cruise, with different starters, main courses and desserts available each evening. There is also a separate Gala Night menu.
